Kia Ora (or Welcome) to our first ever New Zealand adventure!
|
|
We spent quite a bit of time working out a schedule that would allow us to see as much as possible of New Zealand, but would also give us a number of rest days so that we weren't constantly travelling. However, there was so much to see and there were uncertainties like the weather to consider, so our schedule was destined to change a bit during the trip.
We updated the site as often as we could, which allowed everyone to keep tabs on us, as well as follow our New Zealand adventures for each day!
We have now replaced nearly all of the orginal 'borrowed' photos with a selection of the ones we took ourselves. Hopefully, our decision to use thumbnail sizes, which visitors can then click on to enlarge, will allow the site to load more quickly.
To follow the path of our travels, you can either click on sections of the map or select a date from the list below. This will take you to the journal entries we made for each day.

We travelled with a Hewlett Packard HP360LX palmtop computer which runs Microsoft Windows CE. This allowed us to keep in e-mail contact with friends and family, and was also how we managed to update these pages as we travelled around New Zealand. We were able to update information on the computer any time we liked as long as the batteries held up.
At most hotels or B & Bs, we were able to plug the palmtop in to the mains electricity to recharge the batteries, and if we had access to a phone socket, we uploaded all the latest information to this web site in addition to sending and receiving e-mail.
This sure gives future holidays a whole new outlook and also provided us with the odd interesting moment or two as we tried to find a phone link and power source for the little wonder. This really was easy in New Zealand!
One other point is that the palmtop fit neatly into the front pocket of a pair of Tom's dress pants, so it took up next to no room in the camera bag or back-pack!
